The International Banking Center (IBC) of Panama reaffirms its position as an essential pillar of the national financial system and a regional benchmark, strengthening the confidence of depositors and investors through its excellent operational and financial performance. This is highlighted in the Banking Activity Report (BAR) as of November 2024, issued by the Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP).
The IBC has demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of global and local economic challenges. Its prudent and strategic management has established it as a model of financial stability and sustainability.
The IBC's net loan portfolio grew by 8.6% year over year, reaching USD 94.87 billion, driven by the dynamism of key sectors such as commerce, personal consumption, and agriculture.
Meanwhile, the National Banking System's (NBS) local credit recorded a 5.3% increase, totaling USD 64.183 billion compared to the same period the previous year, when it stood at USD 60.945 billion, reflecting sustained support for the country's economic development.
Deposits, the main source of financing for the IBC, totaled USD 107.403 billion, with a year-over-year growth of 3.07%. This increase not only demonstrates the confidence of both local and international savers but also highlights a strategic preference for local deposits amid a context of funding source diversification.
IBC’s total assets reached USD 152.996 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of USD 6.854 billion or 4.69%. This positive performance was driven by the net loan portfolio and investments in securities, underscoring a strategy focused on optimizing returns on productive assets and prudently managing resources.
The Average Liquidity Index reached a solid 54.1%, while the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) stood at 15.9%, significantly exceeding regulatory requirements and aligning with international Basel III standards. These results confirm the system's capacity to absorb unexpected losses and ensure operational continuity in challenging environments.
These results strengthen the International Banking Center as a symbol of confidence, strength, and competitiveness not only for Panama but for the entire region.
This positive performance reaffirms the IBC's commitment to financial stability, economic growth, and the country's depositors and investors.
