Friday, 21 July 2023
  • Banking access is of utmost relevance in the current economic and social context, as it has the power to transform lives and communities.

The Superintendent of Banks, Amauri A. Castillo, participated in the opening ceremony of the VIII International Financial Summit of Panama held by the Panama Banking Association (ABP, for its acronym in Spanish).

Topics related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Banking; the status and perspectives of banking access in Panama; innovation; financial inclusion; and sustainability, among others, will be addressed in this edition.

The Superintendent of Banks of Panama, Amauri A. Castillo, presented “The Status and Perspectives of Banking access in Panama,” during the VIII International Financial Summit of Panama.

The Superintendent explained that “regarding financial inclusion, as of the end of April 2023, the number of deposit accounts stood at 5.8 million, representing an increase of approximately 85% in a decade. This increase can be attributed to the lockdown and mobility restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

From our perspective, banking access is of utmost relevance in the current economic and social context, as it has the power to transfer lives and communities. Access to secure financial services is an important right that enables people to fully participate in the country’s social and economic development,” pointed out Superintendent Castillo.

For the regulatory body, this is a place of great value to reflect on the progress, challenges, and opportunities for financial inclusion in the country.

The event was attended by 55 financial institutions from 33 American, European, and Asian countries that have operations in the International Banking Center (CBI, for its acronym in Spanish) and other countries in the region.
